Floricanto en Mictlan

by - 3 comments

alternaCtive publicaCtions would like to honor contemporary Chicano/a authors who have preceded us in the journey to Mictlan. In the tradition of the Floricantos, we have gathered quotes from their work, book covers, and pictures. May they serve as one way of remembering these writers.

We have included in this hommage those who published during the second half of the 20th century and are now deceased. If we have missed anyone, kindly bring this omission to our attention so that we can update our files.

We hope you’ll enjoy this tribute, and we invite you to leave your comments on our site.

There’s so many veteranos de la lucha that have gone on to prepare the way: Trinidad Sanchez, Jr., Ricardo Sanchez, Tigre Perez, raulsalinas, Jose Antonio Burciaga, Max Martinez, Omar Salinas, and many more. I’ll always remember the Caracol years when we were young and had no fronterias.

Absolutely wonderful! So many I’ve loved and greatly respected, and I literally hear their voices. Others new I’m glad to meet. The powerful concept inspires me as a Floricanto way. And reminds me of what Cecilio’s and my son Itzolin envisioned, Azteca expression in our time—image, written voice, movement, color—even the typography dancing. Mil gracias.
