own beetle and bug infested<br \/>\npoor mats and cots<br \/>\nand bags of straw<br \/>\nof incommunicable colors<br \/>\ncompare.<br \/>\nInstead,<br \/>\ninstead let us talk about his eyes<br \/>\nand how they see<br \/>\nthe things they see,<br \/>\nand let us talk about them<br \/>\nfor one minute and 50 seconds.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He sees<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> as did Plato and his gadfly mouthpiece\u2026<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> a breath, a flux,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He had a groping understanding,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&#8211;amounting to a realization<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">that he did not yet understand&#8211;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">of where he wanted to be,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">where he wanted to stand,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">standing on his two feet<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">on that surmised point of departure<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">from where he could fix his two eyes<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">and stretch his hollow bones<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">to let the sky take him in<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Sin estar completamente<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">consciente del hecho,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">era un arquitecto<\/span><br of those few poets,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">since the murder of the old gods,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">who actually seek to dwell<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">within the houses of their own words<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">and though he could see<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">the great gaps<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">in its four stammering walls<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">of earth and mortals<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">and rumors of divinity,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">he seemed to grasp<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">that the bird within and the bird without<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">would be able to penetrate his poetry,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">to find liberation within and without<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">the infinite aviary<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">of his clattering nouns.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">There is a fear,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">amounting to a welcoming joy,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">of the annunciating bird.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">A dark omen, a bringer of joy,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">the house-entering bird?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">We do not know.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Our poet did not know.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He only knew<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">that neither he nor the bird<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">dwelt in a world with empty spaces,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">that whatever the bird did<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">propelled him,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">that whatever he did<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">moved the bird across here and there,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">across yesterday and tomorrow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">On a day in February,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">the cleansing,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">chastening month<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">of a pagan world,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">the bird flew into his house,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">and our poet,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">our onyx bird,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">el ave de voz ronca,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">flew into that everywhere house<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">of limitless sky and infinite gods.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>ALFONSO TEXIDOR<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">There are certain living, breathing<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">places in this world,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">certain quartiers,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">vicinati and barrios en este mundo<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&#8211;ciertos lugares con almas abrumadoras&#8211;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">whose sidewalks<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">and red-bloom in their very fire hydrants.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">There are certain places in this world<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">that have presiding spirits<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&#8211;the Mission la Misi\u00f3n<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">misi\u00f3n de dolores exquisitas&#8211;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">spirits that wander<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">spirits that turn a corner<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">and disappear<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">spirits that reappear<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">cuadras y style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I did not know him<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">and was quite content<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">not to know him,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">for whenever I ventured down<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">la mentada Veinticuatro,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I was sure to style=\"color: #0000ff;\">as the angles of a square.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">For twenty years<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I knew not his name<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">but sharpened one<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">as keen-edged as he<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&#8220;Pero \u00bfdonde est\u00e1<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">el knife blade?&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I would wonder to myself<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">if I failed to see him<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">in La Boh\u00e8me,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">and in so wondering<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I would conjure him,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">and he would razor<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">through the door <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">slicing<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">through the thick distractions<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">of this world<\/span><br #0000ff;\">and all was sustained<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">for yet another day.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He was essence of place,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">vibration of movements<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">of limbs and wheels,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">iris of color and light,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">and yes he is gone,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">gone save for the sanctifying<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">fictions of memory,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">and there will be<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">the fear of a lack,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">of a mis-balance,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">de una vaga alegr\u00eda perdida.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Yet the Alfonso Texidor<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">was the Lamed Wufnik<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">of the place while amongst us,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">and when one Lamed Wufnik<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">breathes out<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">for the last time<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">another immediately<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">takes their place.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">We will know the new one<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">immediately.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">We may not.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Our tempted eyes will vary<\/span><br \/>\n<span
